Solidarity from GSU

Subject Line: Solidarity from GSU

Well, folks, to say that 2021 is off to quite the start would be a dramatic understatement. The right-wing violence at the U.S. capitol this week is, unfortunately, the culmination of years of escalating authoritarian rhetoric and white supremacist violence. This is an overwhelming time of fear and uncertainty, but when we act in solidarity with one another, we can all feel less alone. Please–don’t hesitate to reach out to your fellow workers and organizers just to talk or to get involved in the New Year so that we can all work together to make our world a better place, in ways both big and small.

Save the Date: Winter GMM Wednesday, January 20

Our first GMM of the winter quarter will be on Wednesday, January 20. Keep an eye out for more details, but in the meantime, please add the date to your calendars!

Among other agenda items, we will be voting on endorsing the #DefundCPD campaign, as a follow-up to the training on policing in Hyde Park held in fall quarter. The goal of #DefundCPD is to divest from police violence that disproportionately impacts Black, brown, and indigenous communities and to instead invest in resources such as schools, mental health clinics, and housing that we and our neighbors deserve.

Recarding with GSU Reminder

Don’t forget: one way to renew your involvement in the independent GSU is to sign our new digital membership card. Now that we’re an independent union, we’re asking all members to sign a new (digital, for now) membership card to confirm their membership in GSU. There’s no negative consequence if you don’t sign this card; we’re here to support all graduate workers regardless. This is simply a way for us to get back in touch with our membership.

Sign the membership card here!
